After 25 months, the conflict in Syria continues to cause destruction and human suffering. According to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights the overall death toll has reached more than 70,000 people since the onset of the crisis in March 2011.

RESPONSE

UN Agencies and the humanitarian community in Syria continue to provide assistance to people in need despite the dangerous security situation, fuel shortages, a lack of capacity and administrative constraints. UN agencies and partners seek US$1.6 billion for life-saving interventions in the first six months of 2013.
